There are 13 peaks in California that exceed 14,000'. I have made several attempts on Mt. Shasta, as well as an attempt on North Palisade. However, I am still waiting to stand on my first summit in California.
Generally speaking, the California 14ers are very difficult. They require overnight (if not weeklong) trips, and technical climbing skills. The most notable exception to that rule is the high point in California, Mt. Whitney, which can be climbed as a non-technical hike.
I have had a great time on Mt. Shasta and North Palisade during my previous trips. I look forward to returning to California to climb all of the peaks in the future.
